Analysing short film - Malheur animation

 Messages and Values :
At the end of the short film it has a quote in french which translate to 'the good is not enough to ensure the happiness, but the damage is sufficient to ensure the misfortune'
Target Audience :

Micro aspects :
Sound - For this short film sound plays a vital role as there is no speech from the characters and relays on added non-diegetic and Foley sounds to help build tension and stir emotion as it comes across quite serious which is a contrast since the whole short film is shot with Lego men/women, which we associate with lilttle kids and having fun however that idea is subverted in this video also it is shot in a film noir
style.

Cinematography - There is alot of over the shoulder shots which creates enigma codes and denotes he's the protagonist it, another technique deployed which works effectively is the shallow focus used on a few occasions throughout the film it connotes to the audience the importance of that character which is being shown and also that their mind is clouded and confused.

Editing : This film is shot with slow pace which helps to build tension for the audience. It also uses montage editing as it has numerous flash backs for the protagonist and audience as we piece together whats gone on.The editors have used the dissolve efect well to help move on the story as it allows you to move locations without having to film it also helps connote enigma as were not sure how or why our protagonist has got here.

Mise en scene - By using a bedroom as the murder scene at the beginning of the film it instantly builds tension and anxiety because your home is seen as a safe haven and within that your bedroom is meant to be your isolated room from the rest of the world. Personally i wouldn't say costumes plays a big part in this short film as the majoirty of is plain and bland however gestures play a important role as close ups on the characters faces are used often to denote to the audience how they are feeling as there is no dialogue by any of the characters.
